Product film · STIHL LogBuch

A forest that only exists digitally.

Software that digitizes the forest is incredibly useful – and completely invisible. For STIHL and its forestry startup LogBuch, we made it visible: a brand film about the digital forest, shot where it happens – in a real forest.

The job of this film

LogBuch is STIHL's forestry startup (SDP Digitale Produkte). The software digitizes forest work: trees can be marked by voice and GPS, timber volumes measured by camera – straight from the forest into the digital portal. Practical, but not exactly tangible.

Our task was to make exactly that tangible – for two very different audiences at once: foresters and forestry operations on one side, cities and municipalities with their tree registers on the other. The film had to work at trade fairs, on the website and in sales. So we didn't go to a studio – we went into a real forest.

Why us, of all people – and why here, of all places

Before Florian made films, he learned the forest: a forestry diploma at the Bad Vöslau forestry school (the predecessor of today's HBLA für Forstwirtschaft in Bruck an der Mur). In the middle of it, a cable-yarding course – right here in the Salzkammergut, at exactly the training facility where we would shoot twenty years later. You don't forget a place like that: steep slopes, steel cables, chainsaws, out into the stand early in the morning. And you don't forget the people you meet there – in the end, they were exactly the ones who opened the door for us again.

So it was clear where this film would be made: in a real forest, at the teaching forest of FAST Traunkirchen, with the approval of the Österreichische Bundesforste. We stayed at Guesthouse Loidl right on Lake Traunsee – first in 2020 for LogBuch, then again in 2022 for its successor treeva – that time on RED. In front of the camera were no booked models, but the people themselves: forester Fritz and the product managers who built the software. You can see it in every shot – and that was exactly the point.

Brand films for products that need explaining

Software, machinery, technical innovation – often the best thing about a product is the part you can't see. That's exactly what we make films for: brand films and product films that tell complex, explanation-heavy subjects in a way every audience understands – from expert users to the executive floor. If you have a product that needs explaining before people can love it, you're in the right place. We're based in Austria's Salzkammergut and shoot across Austria and beyond.
